Worzalla Unveils Finalists in Name the Mascot Competition

Community asked to vote for their favorite name for new book mascot .

Stevens Point, Wisconsin (April 7, 2023) - Worzalla, an employee-owned printing company specializing in high-quality custom products including popular children's books and movie tie-in books, has announced the finalists in its Name the Mascot competition:

  1. Reed A. Bookman - Submitted by Ms. Lund's 2nd grade class at Roosevelt Elementary School

  2. Paige Turner - Submitted by Ms. Schleifer's 3rd grade class at Washington Elementary School

  3. Bookzalla - Submitted by Ms. Konkol's 4th grade class at Bannach Elementary School

  4. Chappy the Chapter Book - Submitted by Ms. Skare's 3rd grade class at Roosevelt Elementary School

Worzalla received 16 entries from classrooms across 9 different schools, and one homeschooled class, in the Stevens Point area for its Name the Mascot competition. The public is now invited to vote on their favorite entry on Worzalla's Facebook Page through April 13, 2023.

"Watching the whole community participate in Worzalla's Name the Mascot Competition from teachers to parents to students demonstrates how much our community cares about our youngest readers," said Brianne Petruzalek, Vice President of Human Resources of Worzalla. "We have to give credit to the teachers that entered their classrooms' ideas and we can only imagine the class discussions that led to these highly original and creative name options."

Classrooms around Stevens Point area were asked to submit a name idea that they through would suit Worzalla's mascot the best. Along with each name, each classroom also submitted a rationale for why their choice would fit the mascot the best. Ms Lund's 2nd grade class said that Reed A. Bookman sounds like someone telling another person to "read a book, man." Ms. Schleifer's 3rd grade class said that Paige Turner was akin to "page turner," or a good book that you can't wait to turn the page and keep reading. Ms. Konkol's 4th grade class shared that Bookzalla would be perfect because the words Worzalla and book put together make Bookzalla, also noting that they liked how the mashup sounds like Godzilla. Ms. Skare's 3rd grade class believes that Chappy the Chapter Book is the best name for the mascot because Worzalla publishes such a wide variety of chapter books.

"There are so many creative name ideas that narrowing the field down to three finalists was hard," said Jim Fetherston, President, and CEO of Worzalla. "Thank you to all our associates across the company who participated in choosing the finalists and good luck to our finalists as the final round of public voting starts."

A public round of voting will determine the winner of the Name the Mascot Competition. The public can vote by "liking" a photo of their favorite entry on Worzalla's Facebook Page. The entry with the most likes by 11:59 p.m. Central Time on April 13, 2023, will be named the winner. The winner will be announced on April 14, 2023, on Worzalla's Facebook Page. The classroom with the winning entry will be awarded a pizza party, a $250 donation for supplies for their classroom, and a visit from the Worzalla mascot.
