Worzalla Associates Raise Over $2,000 for Special Olympics

Worzalla, an employee-owned book printer specializing in printing high-quality children’s books, cookbooks, and hard-cover best sellers, participated in Special Olympics Wisconsin’s (SOWI) Sun Run and Solar Plunge fundraiser. The goal was to raise $757, the amount it takes to support one Wisconsin Special Olympics athlete. Team Worzalla collectively surpassed the goal, raising a total of $2,500. The funds raised will support 3 Special Olympics Wisconsin athletes, providing sports training, leadership opportunities and competition year-round in 19 different sports.

“The Worzalla team responsible for coordinating community events saw the Sun Run and Polar Plunge as a wonderful opportunity to raise funds to support the athletes of SOWI and our community,” said Brianne Petruzalek, Worzalla Vice President of Human Resources. “Additionally, it provided a fun wellness opportunity for our associates to come together and complete a 5K run/walk through Iverson Park.”

Worzalla associates were incentivized to contribute to the Special Olympics fundraiser through an internal prize raffle and Ice Bucket Challenge. Associates who participated in the Sun Run 5K or gave an additional donation received tickets for Worzalla’s Summer of Fun Drawing. Prizes included $50 gift cards, paid time off and the grand prize winner had their choice of camping gear, a FitBit, an Apple Watch, or a $500 gift card.

Worzalla took the fundraiser a step further by adding an Ice Bucket Challenge competition. Associates donated to management team members they wanted to see on the receiving end of a bucket of ice. “The water was extremely cold,” said Jamie Kemnitz, one of the managers selected to receive a bucket of ice. “But it was an entertaining event for our associates to watch and well worth it knowing the donations were for a great cause.”

This fundraiser is one of Worzalla’s many community outreach efforts. Other efforts include donating books to libraries and schools, sponsoring literacy and learning events, and participating in highway cleanups. More information is available at Worzalla.com.
